Description
Emilio Maria Beretta, born March 27, 1907 in Muralto and died July 1, 1974 in Geneva is a Swiss painter. Son of Efrem Beretta, director of the Locarno Brewery, and Maria Martinoni, he married Isabelle Cingria, daughter of Alexandre Cingria, and then Monique Hentsch. After studying at the cole des Beaux-Arts in Geneva, he left for Paris in 1930 where he attended Gino Severini’s studio in Paris. He then returned to Switzerland and worked as early as 1936 with Alexandre Cingria and Jean-Louis Gampert, making many frescoes and murals. In 1952, he won the Veillon Prize for painting. In the same year, he co-founded the Gruppo della Barca.
