Description
Leaning Nude Red Chalk, a drawing by Bernard Meninsky (1891-1950). Meninsky was a significant painter, draughtsman and teacher, born in Karotopin, Ukraine. He was moved to England as an infant and went on to attend Liverpool School of Art where he was awarded the Kings Medal. He also studied at the Royal College of Art and the Slade School of Fine Art. He has many works held in major UK public collections, including those of the Arts Council, the British Museum, the Imperial War Museum, the Tate Gallery, and the Victoria and Albert Museum. A Meninsky memorial exhibition was organised by the Arts Council in 1951, and a number of retrospective shows have been staged since.
