Description

The Work of Horace is an Original Etching realized after Claude Mellan (1598-1688). The artwork is in good condition included a white cardboard passepartout (50×32.5 cm). No signature, edition of the Chalcography of the Louvre realized in 19th Century. Claude Mellan (23 May 1598 9 September 1688) was a French draughtsman, engraver, and painter. In 1637, after a period of time in Aix-en-Provence with Nicolas-Claude Fabri de Peiresc, he returned to Paris, where he adopted an idiosyncratic technique, in which, instead of creating shade by cross-hatching, he used a system of parallel lines, regulating tone by varying their breadth and closeness.
