From 1804 to 1938, Choisy-le-Roi earthenware was one of the main industrial activities of this Val-de-Marne town. In 1930, it employed up to 1,400 workers in the largest of the local earthenware factories: H. Boulenger & Cie.
The Choisy-le-Roi faience factory was founded by the three Paillart brothers on Flor 21 in the year XIII (May 11, 1805). Valentin, Melchior and Nicolas Paillart bought a 4 hectare site, located in part of the former royal domain, to set up their faience factory. They will begin to produce fine earthenware with printed decoration from 1808, in collaboration with Christophe Potter (1751-1817). (Cf. Patrice Valfr).

The faience factory became, over time, and this until its final closure in 1934, in the main center of influence of Choisy.

Owned by the Paillart brothers from 1805 to 1824, the pottery was managed by Valentin Paillart and his partner Hippolyte Hautin. In 1836, the departure of Valentin Paillart left the factory to Hippolyte Hautin, who joined forces with Louis Boulenger (1773-1850). His children Adolphe Boulenger (1805-1873) and Alexandrine Hautin (1814-1900) married and had four children, including Hippolyte Boulenger (1836-1892) who in 1863 became the owner of the company to which he gave his name. by H. Boulenger & Cie (Hautin Boulenger & Cie). It turned the local ceramics factory into a leading national industrial company: the Choisy faience factory received several official awards at the World Exhibitions. In 1889, Hippolyte Boulenger moved the headquarters to Paris, 18 rue de Paradis. At his death, three years later, he was succeeded by Paul-Hippolyte and Alexandre Boulenger. In 1920, the company HB & Cie bought the manufacturer de Montereau, owner of the Creil-Montereau brand, and became HBCM (Hippolyte Boulenger-Creil-Montereau). He closed his workshops in Choisy in 1934, those in Montereau in 1955 [1]. The three Neo-Gothic funerary chapels of the Boulenger family, although very deteriorated, are still visible in the Choisy-le-Roi cemetery.

In 1967, the company changed its name to tablissement Boulenger, a coatings company.
