Description
Wonderful figurine depicting a child fisherman, in very fine white hard-paste porcelain, glazed, signed below the base with “N” under five-pointed crown in blue under glaze. The sculpture can be dated to the first half of the 19th century, 1800-1850. Made by the Royal Ferdinandea Factory manufacture in Naples until 1806, then from this date until 1834 ownership of the manufacture passed to Ginori of Doccia. The sculpture could be from either manufactory but it is practically the same. The artistic quality of the sculpture is very high, with remarkable attention to detail. The face is slightly tilted, we are in the early 1800s but still strong was the influence of the Rococo style of the 1700s. Finally, the ceramic impasto is excellent, very hard and rich in kaolin. Absolutely 100% antique and authentic mark. Beautiful patina on the unglazed rim under the base, testifying to the age of the piece, also shown by the holes on the back, which were made only in the oldest porcelains, as a heat vent, to prevent them from bursting during firing, being made of solid porcelain, not hollow, like the more modern ones.
