Description
This model Bottle Shape Vase from the KPM Archiv Collection was produced in 2018.
Berlin-based ceramics manufactory KPM to create a limited-edition collection drawn from the KPM archives. The form of this Bottle Shape Vase was originally developed in 1908 by German ceramic artist Theo Schmuz-Baudi, who was KPM’s Artistic Director at the time. The form was intended to be used as bottle, but its elegant, slender neck is perfect for a single blossom. The Bottle Shape Vase’s graphic surface design was developed in 1935 in the KPM painting atelier. Two different painting styles were married: first the cobalt blue underglaze is applied roughly and burnt until smooth; then the delicate abstract patternsconsisting of subtle golden dots and red biomorphic gesturesare painted on top. Thanks to this detailed ornamental work the otherwise rather minimal form takes on a moody and glamorous air.
This design has not been produced by KPM since the last century and is available now exclusively in an edition of five. Each piece is hand-painted at the KPM manufactory in Berlin.
