early 19th century

:
Beautifully shaped chair, made of solid cherry in the early Bavarian Biedermeier style around 1800-1810.
The sabre legs protrude slightly from the frame. Inlaid bands of ebony visually divide the leg into an upper section belonging to the frame and the elegantly curved section below. This division is a reference to the end of early classicism and the form of the stepped leg that was so popular at that time, as we find, for example, in Wolfgang Eller – Mbel des Klassizismus, Louis XVI und Empire p. 195 ff.
The backrest is decorated with dark inlays and a dominant, carved palmette
According to the previous owner, the chair comes from Banz Abbey, a former Benedictine abbey between Bamberg and Coburg.
