Description
DEFINITION:
A very unique newspaper tray / magazine tray / magazine tray. The original use of this object is to transport the picked fruits, vegetables and grains in the fields in Brazil or Portugal. Everything was collected in such a basket (also called Canastra) and then carried on the head to transport. This was a big part of the culture and can also be found in beautiful photos and drawings. This box also has the name P.Jorge burned into it, this is a well-known Portuguese boy’s name.
The basket was converted into a standing basket a long time ago. This happened somewhere around 1900. On the bottom is a label of Dunns Depository, a company in Kent that sold furniture around that time but also did clearances, offered storage and even offered funeral homes.
In short, a very unique piece of furniture for the lover of things with a story and history.
