This is an antique correspondence box. An English, leather bound writing case, dating to he late Victorian period, circa 1890.
Graced with a suite of features and appealing dark finish
Displays a desirable aged patina and in good original order
Bound throughout in deep black leather with a lightly weathered appearance
Brass fittings throughout present warm golden hues
Recessed carry handle adorns the lid, personalised with the name Evelyn
Dressed with a circular escutcheon and Bramah lock untested, key absent
Opening to reveal a storage tray, hosting the folio writing skiver
The skiver in bright navy blue accentuated with gold tooling
Deep purple leather to the reverse adds a touch of colour
Retained by rotating clasps, a blotter opens outwards from the lid interior
Lidded compartment conceals accessories and situates a charming ink well
Maker’s mark for the esteemed Edwards and Jones of Regent Street, London, purveyors of quality cases
