Description

Large modernist oil on canvas evoking the atmosphere and symbolism of a funfair, signed lower right F. Charmat and dated 80. 93×73 cm. Since 1991, the Association des Amis de Frdric Charmat has organized exhibitions and run the Muse de la Lithographie in Saint-Pourain-sur-Sioule. Frdric Charmat wanted to make this museum a living place, which is why he donated his lithographic press. Today, the press is regularly used by artists hosted here. Several exhibitions by contemporary artists are held throughout the year. Frdric Charmat was born on June 3, 1946 in Boulogne Billancourt. Degree in Literature, Diploma in Archaeology, Certificates in Techniques and Graphic Arts and Aesthetics, Matre Es-Lettres, Member of the Syndicat de la Presse Artistique Franaise. He lives and works in Paris, and travels extensively, with a predilection for Venice, New York and the Auvergne. His paintings and watercolors can be found in collections around the world. He also works in silkscreen. He takes part in group and solo exhibitions in Paris, such as the Galerie Mazarine. He works as an illustrator or artistic consultant for various magazines and the Guilde Internationale du Livre. He illustrated Fantomas, a series of original lithographs for the Lenon Tree Company (USA), and a portrait of jazz musician Bill Coleman. He founded Editions d’Art Elstir, publishing numerous artists, including Piaubert, Koso, Couturier, Volti, Rhigas, Amandine Dore, Dan Gandray, Pignon and many others. He wrote numerous articles for L’Amateur d’Art, La Pologne, etc. A discoverer of talent, he loved people without exception, helping them through unfailing friendship. A man of passion, his culture, recognized by his peers, made him an expert in modern and other paintings. Many auctioneers consulted him. In his final battle against illness, he never lost his sense of humor, and was more concerned about the health of others than his own. He died in Paris in February 1988.
