Description

These are refined and elegant French prints with mythological subjects, taken from an antique volume dating back to the mid-19th century (18501860). The frames, made of fine wood and finished with gold leaf, were crafted entirely by hand in recent times by a skilled master artisan in a historic woodworking workshop in Florence. The images in these two framed prints are executed in the Rococo style, an 18th-century European art movement characterized by mythological, allegorical, and fantastical themes. This style is renowned for its sophistication, attention to detail, and a sense of lightness and decorative aesthetics. The first print (shown as the first on the left in the photo) depicts a mythological or allegorical scene featuring male and female figures set within a celestial and dynamic landscape. Cherubs (putti) fly across the upper part of the image, while a winged figure appears to guide the action toward the center of the composition. The scene conveys dynamism, spirituality, and grace, hallmarks of the Rococo style. The second print portrays a group of human figures in a pastoral and idyllic setting, dominated by a crowned male figure surrounded by cherubs. Floral and abundance symbols are also present, evoking springtime or a celebration of nature and fertility. These prints embody the grace and elegance typical of the Rococo period, with a style reminiscent of artists like Franois Boucher and Jean-Honor Fragonard, celebrated for their mythological and romantic representations. The monochromatic technique (likely aquatint or sepia-toned printing) lends the works a timeless and refined character. The choice of mythological and pastoral subjects reflects a taste for fantasy and the idealization of nature, key elements of the Rococo style. These pieces are not only exceptionally decorative but also add a touch of historical elegance, perfect for those who appreciate artistic refinement and the charm of mythological art.
The wooden frames, adorned with gold accents, further enhance the artistic value of the prints. Both pieces are in excellent condition. Dimensions: each frame (including the print): Width: 39 cm, Height: 49 cm, Depth: 2 cm.
