This production proved to be a complete success and became internationally famous with guest performances in Russia and America. Ilse Kubaschewski, owner of Gloria-Film GmbH & Co. Filmverleih KG, made persistent and successful efforts to overcome Grndgens’ resistance to a film adaptation.
