Description

A beautiful depiction of women bathing by a famous Polish painter. The author reached for a motif with a very long tradition and presented it in his own way, which resulted in a unique work, full of carefree and calm. The painting presents a scene of three women bathing in the bosom of nature – two of them are shown sitting on the left side, the third is in a reclining position, facing the viewer with his back.

The presented painting is the work of an artist whose name is not usually associated with painting – Stefan Brzozowski was known primarily as a great caricaturist. Born in 1911, studied at the SSP in Warsaw. He also graduated from the Faculty of Painting, Ceramics and Graphics at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. In his painting work, Brzozowski often expressed his erudition and knowledge of artistic motives – also in the presented work he reaches for a topic associated with the greatest names of art.

In the presented canvas, Brzozowski reaches for this seemingly overworked motif and refreshes it significantly. His “Bathers” seem to refer to many works by Renoir, bearing a similar title and showing similar scenes – both the color range, slightly yellowish, and the carefree, undisturbed mood seem to consciously refer to one of the greatest French painters XIX century.
