Description
Ultramarine dunes’ was photographed in Iran, 2016 with a combination of the special ultramarine colour filter. The idea of colour combination together with Iranian desert landscape came from encountering a local precious stone called Lapis Lazulis. This precious stone was mined for thousands of years and traded mainly for pigmentation use in paintings and fabric. Ultramarine (literally ‘from across the sea’) was processed from lapis lazuli. In the middle ages, when it was used for illuminating manuscripts, it cost as much or more than gold.
