Description
Bar at Night is an original lithograph on ivory-colored paper realized by Wilhelm Gimmi in 1955 ca. Very Good Conditions. Not signed, as issued. The artwork is created in a realistic style through deft rapid strokes, conveying the scene’s emotion in a delicate manner, chiaroscuro and hatching are perfectly applied. Wilhelm Gimmi (1886- 1965) was born in Zurich. In 1906 he graduated from the Scuola Normale di Kssnacht, then enrolled at the Kunstgewerbeschule di Zurich to teach design. He studied at the Acadmie Julian in Paris from 1908 to 1910, then joined Jean Arp, Walter Helbig and Oscar Lthy in the Modern Bund movement, founded by Weggis in 1911. Residente in Paris from 1911 to 1940, he was a member of the Salon d “Autunno dal 1920.
